As of Nov. 30, 2020, noise mitigation projects account for $3.54 billion of the $112.2 billion in Passenger Facility Charges (PFC) revenue that airports have collected since 1991, according to FAA data. A total of 109 airports were using PFCs for noise mitigation projects as of Nov. 30, 2020, the same number as in the previous two years. In 2020, FAA approved the use of PFCs for noise mitigation projects at three airports: Los Angeles International ($15,147,024 for soundproofing), Tweed-New Haven ($760,058 for soundproofing, planning, and multi-phase), and Duluth International ($80,740 for planning). The FAA subdivides noise mitigation projects into six categories. Following is the total amount airports plan to collect for each category, as of Nov. 30, 2020, as well as the percentage that category represents of the total PFCs for noise mitigation that has been collected since 1991: 1. $1.54 billion (43.8 percent) for multi-phase projects.
