FAA is in the process of establishing the Environmental Mitigation Pilot Program allowed under Section 190 of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 and plans to release a notice of funding opportunity this fiscal year, Justin Weiss, Communications Director for Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), told ANR April 19. In an April 5 letter, Congressman Smith urged FAA Administrator Steven Dickson to immediately implement Section 190, which states that the Department of Transportation may carry out a pilot program comprised of no more than six projects at public-use airports aimed at achieving the most cost-effective and measurable reductions in or mitigation of the impacts of aircraft noise, airport emissions, and water quality at the airport or within five miles of the airport.
