The Transportation Research Board’s recently released Critical Issues in Aviation and the Environment 2021 report (33 ANR 80) notes that work FAA is doing to support research to quantify the dose/response relationship between aircraft noise levels and health outcomes is expected to be published in 2022. Asked to explain what that work is, an FAA spokesperson responded: “The FAA has several ongoing research projects related to aircraft noise and health and human impacts. Please see the FAA’s [Jan. 13, 2021] Federal Register Notice on our Noise Research Program. As that research matures, we expect the results to be published, however we do not have any specific details to share at this time.”
