On July 13, the House Appropriations Committee approved a FY 2022 Department of Defense appropriations bill that includes $75 million through Sept. 30, 2025, for the new Noise Mitigation Communities Partnership Program, which was established in FY 2021 to provide grants to civilian communities to fund noise mitigation of homes and other structures affected by fixed-wing military aircraft activities (33 ANR 100). To be eligible for the new program, communities must be within one mile or within the day-night average sound level of 65 decibel or greater of a military installation or another location at which military fixed wing aircraft are stationed. On Aug. 19, DoD issued a Federal Register notice identifying approximately 205 active and reserve installations with facilities covered in the Community Partnership Program (hospitals, daycare facilities, schools, facilities serving senior citizens, and private residences) that appear to be located in eligible communities.
