In September 2021, the 20-year-long FAA grant restrictions that hadforced the Town of East Hampton, NY, to keep its general aviation airportopen to all traffic finally expired, freeing the Town to determine the fate ofits airport.In 2016, a federal appeals court struck down several aircraft noise restrictionsthe Town had imposed at its airport (28 ANR 151), further acceleratingefforts by neighbors to close the airport, where increasing numbersof helicopter flights ferry vacationers to this Long Island beach town area.
