On Feb. 4, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), Ranking Member of the HousernScience Space and Technology Committee, introduced the Federal Aviation Researchrnand Development Reauthorization Act of 2016 (H.R. 4464) to ensure thatrnfederal research and development in support of civil aviation remains at the forefrontrnof addressing challenges confronting the nation’s air transportation system,rnincluding aircraft noise mitigation.rnTitle III of the legislation would:rn• Require the Comptroller General of the United States “to carry out a review ofrnfederal government research programs on aircraft noise levels and the use of suchrnresearch to inform the Department of Transportation’s noise evaluation processes,rnadjustments to noise metrics, and development of noise abatement procedures.”
