The German air traffic service provider Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) has commissioned Rohde & Schwarz with the procurement and commissioning of new direction-finding systems for six German airports. The award follows a public tender process. The chosen locations are at the DFS HQ in Langen, plus the towers at Nuremberg, Hamburg, Muenster/ Osnabrueck, Stuttgart and Hanover. Rohde & Schwarz direction finding systems have been in use at the six sites since the 1990s. However, the introduction of the 8.33 kHz channel spacing in aeronautical communications made it necessary to upgrade the devices. The DFS order includes new DF-ATC-S2 and DF-ATC-S3 direction finding systems, plus installation and commissioning work. The company will also adapt the interfaces to the existing DFS air traffic management system.
