With little fanfare, the world's last flying Boeing 720 (Pratt & Whitney Canada's C-FETB) passed into retirement on September 29, 2010, at Montreal-St Hubert, Quebec, following a 4hr 39min test flight with a PW150 turbine mounted in the nose (the photo shows the 720 on an earlier test with a PT6A). The flight signified the end of the 720's life after an October 2009 CPCP (modifications & corrosion prevention & control programme) check, an inspection that has rendered the aircraft uneconomical to operate. PWC has replaced the 720-023B (msn 18024/ln 177) with a 747SP (Mailbag, September 2010).
