In December last year, more than two years of careful preparation—punctuated by frustration and disappointment—culminated in the final flight of a former Canadian Pacific Airlines (CPA) Douglas DC-6B. Named Empress of Suva, the venerable 'Six' subsequently spent what could be understatedly described as a colorful career with a variety of operators before seemingly ending its days at the South African Airways (SAA) Museum Society's headquarters at Air Force Base Swartkop in Pretoria, South Africa (Airways, December 2009).
