Delta air lines introduced its fourth McDonnell Douglas DC-9 variant (after the Series 50, 80, and MD-90) to the existing fleet on October 25. Boeing 717-200 fleet n° 9564/ N935AT, the first of 88 due from Southwest Airlines/AirTran, operated flight DL2343 from Atlanta to Newark. Delta is adding 717s at the rate of about one a week, with 16 due by December 2013. These will allow the retirement of the remaining DC-9-51s. The 717s bolster the mainline fleet count enabling Delta Connection carrier Endeavor Air to add 76-seat Bombardier CRJ900s to replace 50-seat CRJ200s. A cabin refurbishment has the 717s with 12 First, 15 Economy Comfort, and 83 Economy seats. The family photo also includes (front to rear) a DC-9-51 (9866/N775NC, retiring in January), Delta's first MD-88 (a converted MD-82, 905/N905DL), and Delta's last and 65th MD-90-30 (9251/N951DL).
