I was completely alone in the cockpit on a beautiful moonlit night over the Atlantic. It didn't escape me that I was one of the very fortunate few to be granted this rare opportunity. Through the goggles attached to my oxygen mask, I gazed out a"t the stars and allowed my mind to drift a little. I thought about a few things that mattered to me; things from my past. My brother and I were sailing off the coast of Martha's Vineyard a few years ago when he told me that he'd recently noticed ringing in his ears. I encouraged him to visit the doctor and, though unrelated to his ear problem, a brain tumor was discovered. Many months and a harrowing couple of surgeries later, he was almost his old self.
