As several of my friends and neighbors sat around the patio table in my backyard, drinking home brew while waiting for our steaks to finish grilling, one of them lit up a cigarette. This is something he wouldn't do if we were gathered inside my house, and couldn't do if we'd met at a restaurant. It's rare that I smell cigarette smoke anymore-local ordinances and state laws in the USA have nearly eradicated burning tobacco in any public establishment that I might frequent for a libation or a meal. This is not necessarily a bad thing.
