DESPITE THE challenges facing the commercial aviation industry, American Airlines (AA) managed to remain profitable in the fourth quarter and throughout all of 2019. The Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier achieved revenues of US$11.3 billion in the fourth quarter alone, up 3.4% from 2018. Full-year revenues rose 2.8% to US$45.8 billion. Full-year diluted earnings per share (EPS) were up 8% to US$3.79 billion, and fourth-quarter EPS, US$0.95 billion, were up 19% year-over-year. One indicator that stood out in the earnings release was the passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM), which rose 0.9% to US$14.72 billion.
