It is a gray morning when I arrive at Westerland aboard a Eurowings CRJ700 from Dusseldorf. I quickly discover that this small airport has two terminals. At the main terminal are all the bells and whistles you would expect: check-in counters, luggage belts, and a restaurant. The second, dedicated to general aviation and the scheduled flights of Hanseflug and local airline Sylt Air (flying Cessna 404 twins to Hamburg), is much smaller and a 15-minute walk away-in this instance in soaking rain. But the walk is worth it.
