I enjoyed reading Keith Mwanalushi's article (March 2009) about Zambia Airways and its sole DC-10-30.rnI lived in Zambia in the Seventies and have subsequently travelled back on several occasions on the DC-10 shown between London and Lusaka, as well as to Johannesburg. I also travelled internally on the DC-3s to Kasama and Mwansa in the northeast, that had gravel runways, and to Ndola and Kitwe on the HS 748s.rnI also recall flying in the back of a Piper Twin Comanche late in the Sixties on a flight instructor check-ride for a Zambian pilot in the UK, and then met the same person (Francis) when he was first officer on a HS 748 going to Kitwe when I got a jump-seat ride about five years later.rnI flew into Greensboro, North Carolina, in the mid-Nineties after the collapse of Zambia Airways, and saw the aircraft in storage as we landed. The article bought some closure as I had wondered about its fate.
