Delta air lines and northwest airlines have been discussing a merger (Delta would be the surviving name), and Air France-KLM would invest some €750 million ($1.1 billion) in such an entity. Should the proposal fly (and, as we closed for press, pilot seniority is reported to be the stumbling block), it is expected that United and Continental Airlines will join forces. Meanwhile, Delta has received its first Boeing 777-200LR (Longer Range) Worldliner (N701DN/ Fleet N° 7101 The Delta Spirit), also the first of the variant for a US operator. A second is due in March and a third in December for services to Africa and Asia, with five scheduled for delivery in the first quarter 2009. The 276-passenger layout includes 43 seats in 'Business Elite' class. And, as the official airline of the Grammy Awards (US Recording Academy), which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, Delta has decorated a former Song Boeing 757-200 (N6715C) with suitable artwork.
