Built in September 1938 by the Douglas Aircraft Company at Santa Monica, California, MSN 2029 is an original DC-3, not a converted C-47 or similar military variant. Originally fitted with l,000hp (746kW) Wright Cyclone GR-1820-G2 engines, this is the third DC-3 imported to Australia. The dismantled DC-3-232A arrived in Melbourne, Victoria, aboard the SS Clydebank, on October 17, 1938. Registered VH-ABR, it entered service with Australian National Airways (ANA), named Kanana, on October 31.
