"Roger, cleared to land two-four right/' confirmed First Officer Bob Powell, as we configured to flaps 30, intercepted the glide slope, and continued our approach into Los Angeles International Airport. According to the FMC (Flight Management Computer) we were doing a fine job as we broke out at about 500ft into light rain. We were tired, it was 0530, we had spent the night out over the Pacific inbound from Honolulu, and we were focused on getting it down and heading off to the hotel. But on short final, through my side window I spotted the radiant blue glow of LAX's famous Theme Building— and perked up when I decided how I would be spending my afternoon.
