For a while I thought I was playing the star role in something like World's Funniest Videos. The most ridiculous and outrageous behavior was suddenly being perpetrated by all manner of people. I thought it had to be a joke, that it absolutely could not be serious. Then I was informed that, indeed, it was to be taken seriously and that I better get in line, keep my mouth shut, behave, and conform. The business of setting out to fly airplanes was suddenly even more onerous, convoluted, and exasperating than ever before. 'Personal tests of patience and resilience' was a more appropriate title for this exercise. The humor part was swept away at the speed of light. And here is how it all started.
