Our Bombardier Dash 8 climbs out from Runway 26L at Vancouver International Airport, and within a few minutes we are flying north over the snow-covered mountains of British Columbia's Coast Mountains. I look out of the window and marvel at the rugged scenery below. Somewhere amongst these snowy peaks is Mount Waddington, the province's highest mountain, rising more than 13,000ft (3,960m). Nearly two hours later, we begin our descent. The mountains close in around us―it is almost as if we could reach out and touch the craggy peaks. Through the magic of modern aviation, we find the Skeena Valley and touch down at the Northwest Regional Airport in Terrace, which Hawkair proudly calls home.
