摘要

A combination of warm weather, lack of humidity, volcanic scenery, and a European cachet make Lanzarote, and the other Canary Islands, a major attraction for northern European holidaymakers throughout the year. Consequently, Lanzarote (IATA: ACE/ICAO: GCRR) is Spain's eighth busiest airport, with a phenomenal growth in passenger traffic since 1969, when the airport first opened to international flights. The island of Lanzarote is the farthest north of the Spanish-owned Canary Islands [Islas Canarias] and one of the closest to the African continent―Morocco is the nearest African country; and more than 100mi (160km) of Atlantic Ocean to the east is the Western Sahara Desert. Arrecife, the island's capital, lies approximately halfway down the east coast of the island, and Aeropuerto de Lanzarote is situated immediately to the southwest of the city, skirted to the north and west by mountains of volcanic origin.
