Fittingly, one of the three airlines most closely identified with carrying immigrants from San Juan to New York was itself started by an immigrant. O (for Oscar, a name he detested) Roy Chalk spent the first three years of life in London, England, before his parents brought him to The Bronx in 1910. Although he would never become a celebrity like those other neighborhood kids George and Ira Gershwin, or Lou Gehrig, he would be successful many times over.
