Since about the beginning of the 1990s the extrusion industry has been one of the cornerstones of the Gulf region's economy. The first extrusion plant was built in the region towards the end of the 1970s. Since then the industry has expanded continually. In Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, the Gulf States, Saudi Arabia and Oman, more than 70 extrusion lines are now in operation. Over half of these, 42 plants, were supplied by SMS Eumuco.
