摘要

For many years AlTiB type grain refiners have had a dominating presence in the aluminium casthouse. Recently a new generation of AlTiC grain refiners has been developed which forms an alternative option in achieving a fine and equiaxed grain structure in the various aluminium cast products. In this contribution the progress of AlTiB grain refiners is put in a historical perspective. Both product consistency and product diversification of the AlTiB alloys are reviewed. The essential considerations are outlined forming the basis of the development work for an alternative type of grain refiner. This has finally led to the successful introduction of the AlTiC rod products, which will be presented.
