Cold rolled aluminium alloy strips are successfully used for the production of heat exchanger fins. However, the requirement has arisen in the air conditioning sector, to use materials which hinder the proliferation of various species of bacteria and fungi that can be responsible for various pathologies more or less serious for human health. This paper describes the results of microbiological growth tests of bacteria and fungi on aluminium strips in various surface conditions: either phosphochromated only, or phosphochromated and coated with a hydrophilic lacquer containing a broad-spectrum, heat resistant fungicidal additive which is able to hinder the proliferation of algae.
