In the mid-fifties FCB started with the design and construction of plants for manufacturing carbon products for aluminium electrolysis. The company rapidly gained significant reputation in France and abroad relating first to Soderberg paste, then to prebake anodes. This latter technique enjoyed a decisive boom at the beginning of the 1970s owing to the development of the vibrocompac-tor, the major piece in technology. Straight away, FCB became one of the major suppliers to the aluminium industry, thanks to its expertise as a turnkey plant constructor and equipment manufacturer.
