Several PRMs (particle-reinforced materials) based on Al-Mg-Si alloys, obtained by squeeze casting or sand casting, were investigated with particular reference to their fatigue fracture behaviour as a function of parameters such as the volume fraction and distribution of the particles and the solidification structure of the reinforced alloys. The specimens contained 10 or 20% of SiC particles. For comparison purposes, the properties of the unreinforced matrix alloy were also determined.
