In October 2014 Altaiseer from Saudi Arabia, placed an order with SMS Meer for two 25/ 27-MN front-loading extrusion presses for the Riyadh site. The presses are destined for the manufacture of aluminium profiles for facades. Through the use of energy-efficient drives and ancillary equipment, the presses enable energy savings of 20% compared with conventional machines. In addition the extrusion lines will be equipped with induction furnaces supplied by SMS Meer subsidiary IAS. The induction furnaces heat the 8-inch billets before extrusion following a given axial temperature profile, the so-called taper. The capacity of the plant lies between 12,000 and 14,000 tpy. The new machines are scheduled to go into operation in the second and fourth quarter of 2015.
