SAG has supported Mercedes to substantially cut the weight of its SL 350 and SL 500 cars while increasing rigidity and reducing vibration. For the first time Mercedes produced cars with a 100% aluminium body. With SAG aluminium parts in the door area and boot, weights have been cut by 140 kg on the SL 350 and 120 kg on the SL 500 models. The cross member in the boot is located at the rear of the car, behind the boot, which is reshaped into a die and acts as a reinforcement and crash element.
