According to data from the Japanese Ministry of Finance, aluminium scrap exports from the country are likely to reach an new record high in 2013: scrap exports during the first nine months of 2013 amounted to 120,000 tonnes, up 24% compared to the year-ago period. Shipments to South Korea accounted for nearly 40% of the total exports, a plus by more than 100%. By contrast, the scrap exports to China fell by nearly 3% during the nine-month period. Exports had touched a record high of 148,000 tonnes in 2009.
