Dubai Aluminium Company Ltd (Dubai)the wholly state-owned enterprise which owns and operates one of the world's largest single-site aluminium smelters-is keenly aware of the environmental footprint associated with its core activities. Accordingly, the company strives continu ally to manage the impact of its operations by minimising the use of resources and controlling the release of pollutants into the environment. The company operates a BS EN ISO14001:2004 Environmental Management System (EMS), which ensures that its operations are not only aligned with the most stringent international environmental standards, but also improve continuously. Several key environmental parameters are monitored and managed, the most important being air emissions and energy consumption, along with waste management, water consumption, raw materials, and ecology. Moreover, the company has spent more than AED1 billion (USD272m) on environmental projects since 2000 to ensure continual improvement in environmental protection.
