摘要

Amid the current economic storm, attendees and presenters considered issues not only of economy and job security but also of energy, environment and industry during the TMS 2009 annual meeting. More than 3,600 materials scientists, engineers, students, and educators gathered in San Fran-rncisco, California, for TMS 2009, (he Society's 138th' technical conference. From 14 to 19 February, more than 2,600 papers - a TMS record - were presented at 64 symposia. The conference was accompanied by an exhibition of 131 companies, most of them equipment and technology partnersrnof the aluminium industry. Nearly 450 attendees gathered to hear about the future of the aluminium industry and how high-profile companies such as Rio Tin to Alcan and Alcoa plan to adjust to the economic downturn during the Aluminium Plenary Session.
