A Canadian subsidiary of Aleris international filed for bankruptcy protection in order to expedite the liquidation of a closed aluminium rolling mill in Cap de la Madeleine, Quebec. Aleris closed its light-gauge products mill in July 2008 due to irreparable damage suffered by the operations as a result of a labour impasse.
