Under consideration of the preconditions favouring the formation of diox-rninsandfuranstak-ing into account the demands of operational requirements mainly two di-oxin/furan abatement technologies: afterburner with quench and dry absorption. Both technologies have their pros and cons.rnAfterburner systems have the obvious advantage that they actually destroy di-oxins and furansrnby pyrolysis. However, the precursors are not removed from the gas stream. So there is a residual risk of reformation downstream the system. As dioxins and furans probably form downstream the furnace the entire gas volume needs to be treated. To that extend the inherent high energy consumption may become an issue. The temperature is kept high, which reduces the risk of condensation inside the offgas system. The afterburn-rntures. A smart process design needs to consider this. Main cost factor is the production of residuals.
