UC Rusal announced the launch of production of 9 μm aluminium foil at the Armenal foil mill (Armenia). The company invested USD6m in super thin foil production technology in 2007/08 to meet the high demand from global markets. The share of this kind of foil in the total volume of production at Armenal will rise to 70% once the new equipment reaches its design capacity. The super thin foil is aimed at clients in the USA, Europe, and Middle East. The company has already invested USD 70m in this programme, Super thin foil is used for household appliances and, in combination with other materials, is widely used in the food industry. The mill is currently testing the production of foil less than 9 μm thin.
