In October Alcoa decided io close the remaining potlines at its Rock-dale smelter in Texas, so curtailing 150,000 tpy of primary aluminium. In November the company announced the temporary shut-down of a further 350,000 tonnes of aluminium production capacity per year. Combined, Alcoa's curtailment in the second half of this year comprises 15 percent of its annualised output, or 615,000 tpy. The additional measures were necessary because of lower end-market demand and global economic softness, Alcoa said.
