Jupiter Aluminum, the Hammond secondary aluminium smelter in Indiana that has been idle since a fire in November 2006, has agreed to comply with federal air-pollution rules when its production resumes. Under a consent decree with the U.S. Justice Department and state and local officials filed in the U. S. District Court for Northern Indiana, Jupiter agreed to take steps to ensure compliance with certain provisions of the federal Clean Air Act. The smelter also agreed to pay a civil penalty of US$lm.
