The results from the preliminary experiments showed that the addition of 1 wt-% alumina only resulted in an increase of 0.75 wt-% alumina in the electrolyte, indicating that saturation with respect to alumina was reached at the end of the experiment. When the cooling curve measured prior to the alumina addition was compared to the cooling curve recorded at the end of the experiment, a lowering of the freezing point of about 8℃ was found. The arrest in the cooling curve at the end of the experiment was 711℃ which probably represents the "eutectic" temperature with respect to alumina in this system since the melt was saturated with alumina when the cooling started.
