Industry pioneer and former SC&RA member A.L. (Lavern) Rountree died on Christmas Day 2016 at his home in Earleton, FL. He was 89. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Rountree and his father established Rountree Transfer & Storage in 1945. Through hard work and perseverance, Rountree would grow the business into Rountree Transport and Rigging, Inc., a successful specialized hauling and rigging company with branches located throughout the southeastern United States. Known for its innovations, the company was also the first to transport a load weighing 152,000 pounds in the Florida Keys, which they did by utilizing a then new 9-axle transporter that distributed weight over a longer wheel base.
