As I write this I am sitting on an airplane preparing for takeoff. As more people board, I begin to notice similarities between what I am seeing in this small world and the much larger "real world" of our workplaces. Just as we have to want a job and then do some legwork to get it, we have to search for our flight, book the ticket, pay the required fee, and do whatever it takes to be on the plane at the right time. Airplanes, like good employers, don't much listen to excuses when we don't show up where we are supposed to be; we have to do our part or we will get left behind. What about the safety/risk part of flying? Does it also relate to our workplaces? Let's see what we find. I will conduct a real time social experiment and write what I see.
