The second annual World Crane & Transport Summit held in Amsterdam in November was an impressive event. The Summit offered an opportunity to meet and engage major players in the international crane and transport realm. It was an interesting forum for comparing notes, exchanging ideas and discussing differences. I gained further insight into the importance of global partnerships to achieve common goals in our industry, especially when it comes to safety. Several agreements and plans were announced at the Summit, including the development of a global SPMT best practice guide, the first standard for this type of equipment. There was a lively discussion regarding the EN 13000 European standard governing rated capacity limiters. Interestingly, it's become apparent that Americans' request for override keys to be included in the crane cab is gaining support worldwide. Suffice it to say a lot was learned, and I developed a long list of article ideas. For more coverage and the ability to download all the presentations, visit http://www.khl.com/events/wcts2011/.
