California's oil and gas production represents the most environmentally sensitive method of extraction in the world, the California Independent Petroleum Association asserts. In comments submitted in response to the state's climate change scoping plan, CIPA points out that every domestic barrel produced means a barrel does not have to be imported from a country with less stringent environmental laws. The state is ignoring that environmental record, CIPA avers. In comments submitted Aug. 4, CIPA maintains that as the California Air Resources Board begins to implement AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, state regulators must recognize the cleanliness and efficiency of the California oil and gas industry, and avoid actions that would curtail domestic production.
