摘要

Malaria is a tropical illness that blood-feeding mosquitoes spread from person to person. In 2018, approximately 228 million malaria cases emerged, with an estimated 405,000 deaths recorded in the same period. More than half of those deaths were young children. Mosquito nets have limited effectiveness in preventing infection, as do pesticides, and antimalarial drugs also have limited effectiveness in preventing and treating infection (see figure on page 164). Compounding this problem is the lack of resources and infrastructure in regions where the risk for malaria is greatest.
