For 75 years, Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research have supported and encouraged original investigation in all areas of science and engineering. Graduate and undergraduate students in degree programs may apply. Grants cover direct costs only for a research project. Awards are available up to $1,000, except in the fields of astronomy and eye/vision research where awards go up to $2,500. Grant proposals are judged solely on the basis of their scientific merit. There are two types of Grants-in-Aid of Research awards administered by Sigma Xi. One is supported by Sigma Xi funds; the other, by National Academy of Sciences (NAS) funds. Applicants must indicate which one they are seeking.
