The book is intended as an introduction to topics of probability, with a focus on applications relevant to computer science applications. The book's innovative aspect is its use of the statistical system R to illustrate probability computations and simulations. R seems to be a natural system for a probability course, containing functions to compute probabilities and simulate from a wide variety of distributions. Also, because computer science majors generally have a programming background, these students should be comfortable with learning and writing short programs in R.
