摘要

Although the occurrence of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) in drinking water mainly causes organoleptic and/ or operating problems, recent studies have found that Mn intake from water ingestion may lead to intellectual impairment in children and neurological disorders. Even though the secondary maximum contaminant levels of 300 and 50 μg/L were established for Fe and Mn in water, respectively, the concentration as low as 20 μg/L may give rise to discoloration of water. The traditional treatment strategy for Fe/Mn control includes oxidation of dissolved species to particulate forms followed by depth filtration.
