Water systems are monitoring for a wide variety of contaminants that are being reviewed for possible future regulation as part of the Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR). While there are various sources of UCMR contaminants, it is important to understand the levels of the contaminants that may be added by materials and chemicals that are used in water treatment or distribution products. Identifying these product sources, years before regulations are implemented, allows time for industry to redesign/reformulate products and to possibly reduce or remove the potential for the respective products to contribute UCMR contaminants to water.
