摘要

The home doesn't appear on any formal historic registers, but the Mifflin House in Wrightsville, Pa—once a stop on the Underground Railroad—is threatened by development, according to the York Daily Record. In the leadup to the Civil War, the Colonial-era stone abode sheltered fugitive slaves who were passing through the Wrightsville area, on the western shore of the Susquehanna River, to cross a bridge and head to Philadelphia. The Mifflins helped fugitives by hiring a local to take them across by boat if the bridge was too closely watched. The house and surrounding land, long in private hands, are being sold for an industrial development.
