摘要

The Latest: On May 30, US President Donald Trump announced that the US would impose a 5.0% tariff an all Mexican imports, beginning on June 10, in an attempt to incentivise the Mexican authorities to step up efforts to curb the flow of undocumentedmigrants crossing the US-Mexico border. In addition, he threatened to gradually increase these tariffs to 25% over the comingmonths should Mexico not make a concerted effort to remedy the ‘border crisis’. This comes just after the Trump administrationformally notified Congress on May 30 that it would be moving ahead with its plan to get approval for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the replacement to the North-American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Furthermore, trade tensionsbetween the US and China – its other major agricultural trading partner – have escalated significantly since May 5.
