摘要

This session highlights the most recent conceptual and empirical development in one of the newest branches of neurosciences of music. These empirical efforts are inspired by the mysteries of music: each individual listener can build his or her unique mental and emotional scene of any musical piece. Fortunately, recent rapid development in both theoretic and methodologic domains allows us to probe the neural functions and structures involved. In the future, we might even be able to reveal the various ways how social, emotional, motivational, and personality factors interact with each other, and also with neurocognitive functions, when listening to and appreciating music.
